Sunday Snapshots #2

I have decided with all of the wonderful pictures this weekend, I would like to write another Sunday Snapshots blog! This weekend was full of fun and family. I wouldn’t have traded the weekend for anything!!

Friday started off the weekend with fun in Ankeny after work! I was able to hang out with the girls for a while so their parents could have a little break from their busy lives. Our night was full of coloring, popcorn + movies, and lots of singing and dancing. unnamed.jpg

Saturday was another full day. Hallie and my mom came down to tour an apartment with me. It ended up being much more adventurous than that! We toured the apartment, which was really nice, and then went out to eat!

We love Chik Fil A!

After stuffing our faces full of delicious food, we decided to see what the sales were all about on Main Street. We did find a few things and we also had fun taking pictures with one of the many Cy’s around Ames.

We decided to make a last minute decision and head over to Hilton for the game. We had such a great time cheering on the Cyclones. We even managed to make it on the big screen not once, but FOUR times! We did manage to get a picture of one of the times, of course it was the one where we were doing the #farmstrongflex!

Also, while at the game, we were given a huge cardboard head of the cyclone’s coach by Iowa State Athletics. We had a fun time waving it around!

While leaving the game we had noticed a bunch of news station vehicles and campaign busses. We decided to go see what all the hype was about. We ended up seeing Marco Rubio and even listened to him speak for a while before Hallie and mom had to head home!

What a fun weekend! It is always a great time with the family and we ended up finding so much to do here in Ames. Love having family come visit!

Just Checking In!

Wow have I ever been busy! Between balancing my work life and college life, I have had hardly any free time. I am loving my schedule and have 0 complaints for this semester and time is sure flying by quickly!

My classes this semester have been very interesting thus far. I have good, thought-provoking classes such as Human Sexuality and World Religions. I also have extremely informational classes such as Personal Finance and Sociology. My favorite so far would have to be sociology because I have been able to learn more about the history of Iowa State along with interesting ways of looking and studying our society. Comment below your favorite class that you have ever taken and something that you remember from it!

Work has me even busier than ever. I am working every day and I love every minute of it. I am so excited to be looking at apartments here in Ames for the summer. There are so many options and it can be a bit overwhelming. Becoming an adult is hard. If I could go back and tell my six year old self to just enjoy every minute of not having such critical responsibilities, I would! What is the best advice you could give your kid self?

This past weekend was pretty exciting as I met a new family that I am going to start caring for! The dad is a professor here at Iowa State and their son is only two and already bilingual, as he speaks both English and Croatian. How cool is that?! He is such a cutie and the family is so nice! I am really looking forward to babysitting for them along with the family I am already sitting for. This should keep me pretty occupied the rest of the semester and into the summer!

This weekend was also great all thanks to some amazing friends. I am so grateful to have such wonderful people in my life that put up with me. Below is a picture of Brad and I being our sassy selves. P.S.- Don’t worry, the car was not in motion! unnamed.png

Wow that was so much information about me. I hope you’re still reading and didn’t get too overwhelmed with hearing all about my crazy life. I promise I am done talking about myself for now! It’s time we change the course!

Can we all just discuss how great the High School Musical 10 year reunion was?! Not gonna lie, there were tears shed over at Wallace Hartman. I still can remember the night that it premiered on Disney. I was sitting in our living room and I made sure I would get the tv at precisely 7pm. I sat right in front of the tv watching it with my mom!

Another great tv moment this week was the Baltierra wedding on Teen Mom! Catelynn and Tyler have been my favorite couple since day 1. They are the most level headed of all of the parents on the show. The wedding was beautiful and they deserved exactly what they had, the most perfect wedding. I am so happy for them. It is great to see such positive role models and stories considering we see so much negativity typically.

Well that is all for now! I hope I didn’t bore you too much as I wrote this in my small amount of free time while multitasking with watching Gossip Girl on the side. I hope everyone has a great rest of this week!

Sunday Snapshots

I thought I would try something new and write a “Sunday Snapshots” blog this week. I have been so busy during the week that I did not get around to writing a What’s Up Wednesday blog post. With this Sunday Snapshots blog you will still get a glimpse at what is happening in my life currently!

This picture is of a creation someone had made at the NCRC. Often times the kids will want you to grab your phone and take a picture of their creations. I thought it was appropriate to share a picture from work as that is where I have been a lot lately! Starting this semester, I have begun working at the center every day of the week. I am loving my new schedule even when it gets to be long at times! I feel like I am able to connect with the kids better and it gives me something positive to do with my day!

While walking through campus the other day I snapped a picture of Catt Hall. This has been my favorite building on campus and we just started talking about it’s history in my Sociology class. It is so interesting to learn about the different traditions and buildings at Iowa State. I have learned so much in my new classes for this semester already!

Here is a screenshot of an email I received. This was very surprising as I did not think I was qualified to make it due to some of my classes only counting as credits and not hours. I am very proud of this accomplishment along with the fact that my brother made the dean’s list as well at his school! I love that we are changing the reputation of our name for our younger generations coming up.

This weekend I decided to come home. Am I crazy?

unnamed-1.png

Since I have been home, Hallie and I have been having a good time as always. I am so thankful that as we have grown up, we have become closer. We are finally at ages where we can bond together and always have fun and laugh when we are together.

It’s so fun to come back and get to be silly and goofy with my sister. Today I am looking forward to watching her dance at her Winter Show!

Well the first week of the new semester has passed. I think it will be a very busy semester but that is how I like it! First semester flew by and I am expecting nothing less out of this semester. I am hoping I will still find time on the weekends to update my blog. Who knows… maybe this “Sunday Snapshot” idea will catch on for me!

Shop With SoniaAicha Forever 21 Contest

I just want to give a huge thank you to Sonia for putting on a Forever 21 gift card contest! I was so surprised and happy when I found out that I had won! I thought I would share my purchases so she could see what I had used it for.

I bought these socks for my mom who works at the movie theatre in our town! I thought it would be a fun, little gift to bring back to her.

I actually bought this set along with another set… totaling 33 rings! You can say I have a bit of an obsession with rings.

These shoes can match just about any outfit. They will most likely be worn a lot this summer as I will be working with children and running around a lot!

This purchase was another gift. I actually bought two of these in two different colors. One was for my roommate and the other was for myself so we could match! My roommate is a huge believer in naps so it was a fun gift to give her!

Lastly, I bought this wonderful sweater dress. I wore it for the first time this week and was obsessed. It goes well with leggings and made the perfect cold weather outfit. It was both comfortable and warm!

I had a blast shopping online for all of these items! I love shopping and also gift giving so it was the perfect contest to win.  If you’re into fashion and outfit constructing head over to Shop With SoniaAicha and follow her blog!

Kindness Counts

“Kindness and politeness are not overrated at all. They’re underused.”

-Tommy Lee Jones

Over the past few months I have seen this thought of kindness being underused and underrated so many times. Last night as I was opening the door to the movie theatre, I had let a couple of ladies go ahead of me and held the door for them. They had seemed so shocked and grateful that I had done this very minuscule act of kindness for them. Why is it so shocking to some when people show an act of kindness? Because chivalry is dying.

It is so easy to make people’s days. I read posts about paying it forward. This concept can be delivered in both large and small ways. Whether you pay for someone’s coffee or buy all of someone’s groceries, it is almost 100% guaranteed that you will make their day.

Not only is passing on kindness the right thing to do and it improves society, but it can also make your own day brighter. As I was leaving the Iowa State basketball game yesterday, a little girl(probably around 4), had looked up to me. I smiled down at her and the biggest grin appeared on her face. I don’t know what it is about a smile that makes it so powerful but it is so easy to pass them along so why wouldn’t you?!

My hope is for everyone that reads my blog will feel the need to pass a little kindness along today and everyday!

Feel free to comment any other fun ways to pass a little kindness on that you have experienced or heard of!

Adulting (v):

Adulting: “to do grown up things and hold responsibilities such as, a 9-5 job, a mortgage/rent, a car payment, or anything else that makes one think of grown ups.” (Definition taken from Urban Dictionary)

Adulting is a term used by many late teens/early adults. It is often heard by many college kids as we are in the grocery store, purchasing books, paying the rent, or even doing laundry.

Today I felt like I was “adulting” to the extreme! I just returned to Ames last night and had a lot to do today. I needed to run errands, grab groceries, and head to work. After being an adult, I did go have some fun with shopping on Main Street in Ames. I checked out a lot of little boutiques and shops. My favorite was the Tangerine Zebra. This is a small antique/vintage store. I found this globe necklace and would not stop thinking about it as I was looking around. I knew that if I didn’t get it, I would regret it… so I decided to spoil myself and get it! I also checked out a few clothing stores where I found a few sales on stuff I have been looking for. Overall, shopping was a success! After all of my errands were ran and the shopping was complete, I headed to work. Work was, as always, so much fun. I have missed the kids so much over break! These kids made me laugh and smile! As we were walking to the school, one of the girls who is FOUR goes, “When I was younger, I ate snow. It was delicious!”Another instance that made me smile was when one of our first graders had told me that mice are her favorite animal. I then had told her that a fear of mine was mice. She didn’t judge or laugh at me. A few minutes later she had drawn and cut out a mouse and handed it to me saying, “Keep this with you in your room, it will help you get over your fear!” What a sweet little girl!! This is why I love my job! It is so great to be back in Ames!
